3 Ways to Solve Heel Pain

The heel is the largest bone in your foot. The more time spent on your feet may cause heel pain. The pain can range from mild to severe. When this happens, you may need to see your podiatrist especially is some home remedies can’t alleviate the pain at all. There are several causes why an individual may experience heel pain.

This includes:

  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Sprains and strains
  • Fracture or broken bone
  • Achilles tendonitis
  • Bursitis

When you experience heel pain, you don’t need to see your doctor right away. Like any other pain, heel pain can be manageable with a few home remedies. Here are three ways to solve heel pain at home:

  • Rest and stretch

Rest as much as possible. It is important to keep the weight of your body off your feet especially if you have a history of foot injury or inflammation. If you overuse your heel, you are most likely to develop heel pain. If your work requires standing for long periods of time, then spend time to stretch your muscles out. You might like to do yoga before you start your day or after your work. The key is to rest and to do some stretching exercises every day.

  • Wear proper footwear

When you wear shoes that don’t fit properly, chances are, your heel will get hurt. Find proper shoes that match your foot size. You should also avoid walking barefoot around the house as it can stress the tissue at the bottom of your foot. Flip flops may be one of your favorites, however, it also doesn’t provide enough support to your feet. If you will be doing something or going to someplace that needs a lot of walking, then choose a pair of comfortable and breathable footwear. 

  • Apply ice

You can apply ice on your foot twice a day for 15 minutes especially if inflammation is about to take place. It can help your foot relax. You can also do ice treatment after you do strenuous activity or when you stand over a long period of time. Epsom salt is also another wonder treatment for sores and foot inflammation. In this case, you will be needing a bucket of warm water and add a half cup of Epsom salt in it. You might also like to add a few drops of essential oils into it for added relaxation effect. 

These three simple treatments can help with your aching feet. You might also like to massage your calves down to your feet before going to bed at night. However, if the pain persists and worsens then you should see your doctor right away. Your doctor can determine what’s causing the pain and advise you about the right treatment to do to relieve the pain.
